The forest of death

In the second part of the test, the teams are supposed to gather two scrolls, and survive in the forest of death while they try to make it to the tower. As the test begins, Kankuro mentions that while he's vary of the other teams, 
the thing he's most scared of it to spend five days in the forest with Gaara... It turns out to be a well founded fear, as the first (and only) team they stumble across meet a rather nasty death when Gaara tries his Desert Graveyard technique on them.
This chapter is the first glimpse of exactly how cold blooded Gaara is anyway. We also get to see what you can, and can't, do with the sand he carries around. As one of the Hidden Rain guys attacks, 
a shield of sand forms around Gaara, effectively blocking any projectile coming at him. Kankuro explains that the sand acts like a shield, and is operated regardless of Gaara's will. The Hidden Rain ninjas are scared, but one of them attacks, 
and Gaara strikes back with his Desert Coffin technique, which surrounds the poor guy with sand, then squeezes the life out of him to create a rain of blood with the Desert Graveyard technique... By this time, the onlookers realise they're in trouble, but that's much too late... 
Gaara kills them too, just because. And when Kankuro says that since they have both scrolls now and can leave, Gaara tells him to shut up... because he hasn't killed enough yet. One of the Hidden Leaf teams who'd been watching the whole thing, realise they're in trouble... 
But Temari talks Gaara out of it, asking him to listen to his siblings just for once. Gaara replies that he doesn't think of them as his siblings, and that he'll kill them too if they get in his way... x_x ..before he agrees to leave. Thus, the team passed the second test in record time - 97 minutes, beating the old record by 4 hours...<< previous | index | next >>
